Council Highlights – August 10th, 2026

Council convened for the August Regular Council Meeting, with discussions and decisions covering development, emergency preparedness, financial planning, and community initiatives. Council and staff continue to work toward responsible growth, strong municipal services, and supporting the needs of residents throughout Three Rivers.

Planning & Development

Development and planning remained a key focus of the August meeting. Council approved an application for the demolition of the existing paramedic station and garage at 406 MacIntyre Avenue in Montague and the construction of a new 4,840-square-foot facility, including associated landscaping and parking.

Council also approved a major variance at 67 Glenelg Street in Georgetown to accommodate an exterior elevator extension that will improve wheelchair accessibility.

A public meeting was also scheduled regarding a proposed rezoning of 82 Main Street in Montague. The public meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 31, 2026.

Community & Municipal Updates

Council received presentations from residents on a range of community matters, including questions regarding operating reserves, signing authorities, payment methods, planning and zoning, employment opportunities, and concerns regarding social media conduct.

Planning Board Chair Councillor Anne Van Donkersgoed also provided clarification regarding recent questions about development planning, property taxation within the Institutional Zone, Planning Board quorum requirements, and population growth in Three Rivers.

Requests for Decision

• Emergency Management Plan: Council approved amendments to the Town’s Emergency Management Plan.
• Reserve Funds Bylaw: Council approved the proposed amendments to the Reserve Funds Bylaw to establish Operating and Capital Reserves. The bylaw will return to Council at the next Regular Council Meeting for second reading and final approval.
• Kings Playhouse Naming Rights: Council authorized the development of a Naming Rights Policy and the pursuit of prospective corporate partners, with any final agreement requiring Council approval.
