A: Thank you for your question regarding the water and sewer extension on Robertson Road.

The Town is completing this work in conjunction with the Province’s road reconstruction project. By installing the infrastructure now, the Town avoids the significant cost of removing new asphalt in the future.

Funding for this project comes from the Canadian Community-Building Fund (formerly the federal Gas Tax Fund), which is specifically designated for municipal infrastructure improvements. These funds cannot be used for general operating expenses.

Under the Town’s Water and Sewer Rules and Regulations, when water or sewer mains are extended to an undeveloped area, the utility (in this case, the Town) typically covers the cost of the main installation, while property owners are responsible for on-site servicing from their property line to their building. This means developers do not reimburse the Town for the cost of municipal mains, but they must pay for their own connections and any on-site infrastructure.

If the apartment complex sees fruition it certainly will benefit from this extension, as will other current and future properties along Robertson Road. The project expands municipal servicing capacity to support the area’s growth.

We hope this clarifies the purpose, funding source, and approach for this project.
